Multi-talented soulful songstress Empress Divine
This enchanting, very talented versatile vocalist; Empress Divine has graced the Canadian Reggae music scene for over a decade. Officially starting out as a sound system selector (D.J) then making the transition into the talented singing sensation she is today. Empress Divine was born and raised in Toronto, Canada, and was always surrounded by music. Divine’s mother passed away when she was only 8 years old, through the sadness, she used music as a comfort zone to help heal from her tragic loss. A young Empress was able to naturally sing every song with expression and personal meaning. By her teenage years, her love for music had taken her from singing in church choirs, to school assemblies and talent shows to becoming a mobile Disc Jockey (DJ), playing at local parties and clubs alongside other popular local DJ's.

Although being a DJ kept this Empress busy, her true calling was singing, so by 2009 as a solo artist she wrote and released her first single "Jah Lives" which is a reggae take on Jazmine Sullivan's "Need U Bad". Empress Divine is very active within the Rastafarian community, and as she evolves, she shall continue to uplift her community through challenging times, using the power of music to trigger joy and positive messages. Hearing Divine's style and vocal technique you might be able discover she's inspired by music icons such as Marcia Griffiths, Whitney Houston, Sizzla Kolanji, Lauren Hill, Garnet Silk, The Abyssinians and Queen Ifrica.
Towards the start of her 2009 singing career, Empress Divine recorded several songs, including the single “Stop The Violence aka Brap Brap” which was played in heavy rotation on top 10's Rebel Vibes countdown, 105.5 Vibe FM with Carrie Mullings every Monday morning from 10-12am. The 2011 Irie Music Award for Best New Artist went to Empress Divine, then in 2012, she received a Reggae Xclusive Recognition Spotlight Award for Best Female Singjay/Deejay. Onto 2013, Empress Divine was truly honored to receive an award at the Sandra Bashment Boutique Community Appreciation Awards for Breakthrough Female Top Dancehall DJ of the Year. Through the years Empress Divine has been working with producer Konsequence Musik and has released several singles such as “Natty Haffi Grow” on the “Tropical House Riddim”, “MAMA” on the “To be great riddim pt. 2” and “Sweet Jamaica”. She later released a music video for “MAMA” paying tribute to her mother Annette who passed away leaving her at a young, tender age. In 2019, Empress Divine also completed another music video for her song titled, “Natty Haffi Grow” shot by Yaard Boyz Ent in Kingston, Jamaica. She is set to release another video for “Sweet Jamaica” also shot in location. The song highlights the beautiful people, beaches and parishes. She has also released a single with Stubborn Gad Productions called “Real Friends” on the “Up like Seven Riddim”, that was FACTOR funded and promoted well receiving rave reviews. Currently Empress Divine has teamed up with another female artist/producer: Black Orchid who's also based in Toronto. ‘Single Girls Blues’. written and produced by both artists, released August 19, 2022, later an official music video released on YouTube Vevo February 8th, 2023.
